Position Overview:
We are looking for an experienced legal fully qualified solicitor (or barrister) with a current practicing certificate who has extensive experience in local government and experience of being a Monitoring Officer.
Responsibilities:
- The successful person will support a new acting MO as well as provide technical legal support particularly in the areas of report writing and governance.
- They will work with the Acting MO and Legal Service to ensure that the clients democratic and decision-making arrangements operate effectively in accordance with relevant legislation and the client’s Constitution.
- The postholder will ensure that the client acts lawfully and advise on any changes in the law that may affect all or part of the client. Providing high quality legal advice to the client, its members and officers on legal and procedural matters. Alongside the Acting MO, they will work closely with the Chief Executive and s151 Officer to drive improvements in governance in all areas of the client and consider and recommend action in connection with any corporate governance, legal, procedural or constitutional issues which arise and drive effective collaboration across the client, including with Members, to support delivery of corporate priorities.
Requirements:
- Fully qualified solicitor or barrister with a current practicing certificate
- The successful candidate will be an effective communicator, ensuring that compliance and governance matters are adhered to, whilst ensuring collaboration, knowledge sharing and best practices across the organisation.
