Project Manager (Winchester/Remote)

Job Description: We are seeking an ambitious and driven Project Manager to join our client’s Infrastructure Service team. This temporary position (up to 18 months) offers the chance to lead transformative civil engineering projects that positively impact communities and shape sustainable futures.

As a Project Manager, you will manage diverse infrastructure projects, including:

  • Enhancing public transport infrastructure under the Bus Service Improvement Plan.
  • Reconfiguring the city’s road network as part of the City Centre Road project.
  • Improving public spaces in District and Local Town Centres.

You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams, combining strategic leadership with hands-on project delivery to achieve exceptional outcomes.

Responsibilities:

1. Project Coordination and Delivery

  • Deliver capital works projects aligned with strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Project Manager and independently manage allocated projects.
  • Maintain high standards in documentation, including risk logs, financial forecasts, and progress reports.

2. Financial Oversight

  • Develop and monitor project budgets, ensuring expenditures align with approved limits.
  • Provide financial reporting and analyse project costs for value-for-money outcomes.

3. Team Leadership

  • Supervise and mentor junior team members, fostering professional growth.
  • Provide clear direction to Assistant Project Managers and support multidisciplinary teams.

4. Communication and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Represent the client in consultations, ensuring stakeholder needs are met.
  • Deliver professional reports, presentations, and updates to project boards and stakeholders.

5. Procurement and Contract Management

  • Lead tender preparations and manage contractor appointments.
  • Oversee construction and professional framework contracts, ensuring compliance with policies.

6. Risk Management and Problem Solving

  • Identify risks and develop strategies to mitigate impacts.
  • Approach challenges with a solutions-focused mindset to keep projects on track.

Requirements:

Essential:

  • HND/Degree in a relevant field (e.g., Civil Engineering, Project Management).
  • PRINCE2 Practitioner or equivalent project management qualification.
  • Membership in a professional body (e.g., APM).
  • Significant project management experience, ideally in civil engineering or infrastructure.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Proven experience managing projects from inception to completion.
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Familiarity with NEC contracts and advanced project management tools (e.g., Microsoft Project).
  • Analytical problem-solving skills with resilience under pressure.
