Van Tipper Mechanic – Bromsgrove & Redditch Districts

Location: Bromsgrove & Redditch Districts, Worcestershire
Salary: 
£22.24 umbrella £17.11 Paye
Hours: 37 Hours per week (Mon-Fri between 6:30 am – 6:00 pm)
Contract Length: On-going (No end date)

Job Description:

As a Van Tipper Mechanic, you’ll play a key role in maintaining and repairing our fleet of vehicles, plant equipment, and small machinery to ensure smooth operation and high service standards. You will work in a customer-focused environment, supporting both internal and external stakeholders.

Accountabilities

  • Inspect, repair, and service a wide range of vehicles including vans, refuse collection vehicles, tippers, small plant, and agricultural equipment.
  • Perform MOT and taxi tests according to council standards.
  • Attend vehicle breakdowns across Bromsgrove and Redditch districts, performing on-site repairs or arranging recovery.
  • Assist the Team Leader and Senior Mechanic in training staff and prioritizing work.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety standards and policies.
  • Drive vehicles up to 26 tonnes (LGV) as needed.
  • Provide flexible cover during periods of emergency work, special events, and holiday shifts.
  • Maintain accurate records, update computer systems, and ensure all equipment is available and properly maintained.
  • Liaise with contractors, customers, and team members to resolve issues and provide excellent service.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a mechanic, preferably with a focus on vans, tippers, and a variety of small equipment.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety practices and legislation.
  • Ability to diagnose and solve mechanical issues efficiently.
  • Experience with vehicle maintenance and repairs, including MOT testing.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of working in a team and independently.
  • Ability to drive vehicles up to 26 tonnes (LGV) and familiarity with tachographs is desirable.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and able to work under pressure.
